Butterfly

As caterpillars enclose themselves in their chrysalises to undergo metamorphosis, the magic of Unira may intertwine itself with a special chrysalis deemed worthy. A few weeks later, out of the enchanted chrysalis will come not an ordinary butterfly, but a butterfly fairy.

  • Grassland-dwelling butterflies are well known for their murals. The exteriors and interiors of their homes are often beautifully hand painted

Culture

Cicada

Cicadas undergo the longest metamorphosis out of the six groups that make up the fairy classes. After hatching, cicada nymphs burrow into the ground and typically stay there for a few years as they grow into their adult form. The magic of Unira may intertwine itself with a nymph, and when the time comes for the adult cicadas to finally surface out of the ground, the enchanted nymph will emerge as a cicada fairy.

Culture

Dragonfly

When dragonfly nymphs make their way to the surface for the first time after living their lives underwater, the select few nymphs who were enchanted will transform into dragonfly fairies the moment they surface. Dragonfly fairies feel a connection to water for the rest of their lives.

  • The only class lacking any antennae

  • Swamp-dwelling dragonflies have developed adaptive footwear allowing them to alternate between flight and water skating

Culture

Beetle

As ordinary beetles are dormant in their pupae as they undergo the change from larva to adult, the magic of Unira may creep into a pupa. When it emerges from the pupa, out will come a beetle fairy.

  • Desert-dwelling beetle fairies take pride in the fact that nearly all of the adobe homes were built by their class

  • Many of this class are skilled at carpentry, metalwork, glasswork, and/or building

Culture

Moth

As ordinary moths lay dormant in their pupae and metamorphosize into their final winged forms, the magic of Unira may weave its way into a select few cocoons. When the time comes for the moths to emerge from their cocoons, out of the enchanted ones will come a moth fairy. The silk from their cocoons are kept and normally woven into something of the fairy’s choosing, such as an item of clothing or a tapestry.

Culture

Grasshopper

Unlike most other insect groups, grasshoppers don’t enter a dormant phase where their entire metamorphosis occurs. Rather, they grow gradually as nymphs until they eventually develop wings and become adult grasshoppers. Upon a grasshopper’s first leap through the air, magic may enter a lucky  grasshopper’s heart and transform it into a grasshopper fairy by the time it hits the ground.
