The Mountains

region_mountain_0.png

Climate

Summers are warm and winters are frigid and icy.

Working with the Landscape

In the warm season, fairies live aboveground in treehouses. In the winter when the ground is covered in snow, fairies must decide whether to migrate to another region or move belowground.

Clothing

Animal furs and skins keep mountain-dwelling fairies warm in the wintertime. If they venture aboveground in the snow, fairies are sure to wear special gear to protect their wings from frostbite injury.

Population Info

All six classes are common in the mountains. Populations tend to fluctuate with migration patterns, though resettling belowground is becoming more common.

Building Styles

Treehouses have steep roofs to prevent snow buildup. Their lower levels are the main living areas and their attics are sleeping quarters. Underground settlements are organized into districts like residential and social, and burrows are kept warm with magic crystals.

Culture

The Snowmelt Season marks the return of migrating fairies, the move back aboveground, and the start of spring. It's a time of great celebration in the mountains.

The Rainforest

region_rainforest_1.png

Climate

This is the most tropical region of Unira, and it receives plenty of rainfall year round.

Working with the Landscape

Ground level homes are slightly elevated on beams, as a form of structural stability on muddy soils.

Clothing

Bright colors and patterns inspired by rainforest creatures are popular in this region. Clothing is breathable, but not flowy.

Population Info

All six classes are common in the rainforest. Settlements in this region tend to be more densely populated than those in other regions.

Building Styles

Houses are built in the trees or on ground level. Stacked houses are distinct to this region and are able to house plenty of fairies.

Culture

Parrots are beloved companions to many rainforest-dwelling fairies. These birds are popular for their ability to mimic speech and music. They're also useful for helping fairies harvest fruit, both in the wild and in orchards.

The Swamp

region_swamp_0.png
region_swamp_1.png

Climate

The swamp is warm, humid, and rainy year round. Salty waters flow in from the sea.

Working with the Landscape

Houses are always built in trees or on lily pads, as there is seemingly no dry ground to build on. Boardwalks reach over the water and connect trees.

Clothing

Breathability and water resistance are prioritized here, to stay comfortable in the humidity and to keep dry and lightweight.

Population Info

Dragonfly fairies are the most common swamp-dwelling class. Conversely, grasshopper fairies are seldom found here as they prefer dry ground.

Building Styles

Most buildings are standard treehouses, but some houses hang down from tree branches and others are built on floating lily pads.

Culture

Swamp-dwelling fairies have perfected a type of footgear that enables them to skate across the water's surface. Most fairies skate just for fun, but those who take it more seriously enjoy putting on skating routines for fairies all over Unira to watch.

The Desert

region_desert_0.png
region_desert_1.png

Climate

The desert is dry and arid, and receives very little rainfall. What little vegetation there is typically grows along the region's streams and oases.

Working with the Landscape

Settlements are always built along a water source. Since trees are incredibly scarce, settlements are entirely at or below ground level.

Clothing

Desert clothing is designed with primarily breathability and sun protection in mind. Glass blown jewelry is quite popular and brings color into fairies' wardrobes.

Population Info

Beetles, grasshoppers, and butterflies are the most common classes in desert settlements. Dragonfly and cicada fairies are scarcely found here.

Building Styles

Homes in the desert are built almost entirely from clay. Stained glass windows and indoor fountains are common motifs.

Culture

The art of glass blowing is very popular in the desert region, especially after heat crystal technology helped make the process safer and easier. Sculptures commonly depict icons of desert life.

The Forest

region_forest_1.png

Climate

The forest experiences fairly warm summers and chilly winters. It's the only region where the plants lose their leaves in the fall.

Working with the Landscape

Both deciduous and evergreen trees grow in the forest region. Mushrooms grow exclusively here as well.

Clothing

Fairies of the forest often have fun with planning their outfits to match the colors of the season. Acorn and mushroom caps are usually seen as very traditional, but some trendsetters are bringing them back in style.

Population Info

All classes are fairly common in this region. The forest is popular with migrating fairies, as they find it to feel very similar to their home region in the mountains.

Building Styles

Forest houses can be built in or on just about any part of the tree. Large mushrooms are also commonly used as homes.

Culture

A fall tradition in this region is for fairies to catch a fallen leaf and race to drop it outside of their settlement as quickly as they can. It's seen as an act that brings a fairy good luck, and a simple common courtesy that helps keep settlements clear in the fall.

grasslands.png

The Grasslands

region_grasslands_0.png
region_grasslands_1.png

Climate

The grassland region is moderately warm in summers and cool in the winter. It doesn't receive a large amount of rainfall.

Working with the Landscape

The lack of trees means both that wood is not an available resource and that settlements are built at or below ground level.

Clothing

Clothing of this region tends to be quite colorful, due to the abundant flowers that can be made into dyes. Traditional flower garments are given new life through fabric mocks.

Population Info

Grasshoppers, beetles, and butterflies are the most common class in the grasslands.

Building Styles

Houses are entirely constructed out of clay and woven grass and can be entirely above ground, entirely belowground, or a mix of the two.

Culture

Grass weaving is a popular art form in this region, and most homes contain grass woven furniture like baskets, rugs, and seats. Other regions are happy to trade for the grasslands' woven goods.
